What’s new on Disney+ in July 2024

Malia Baker and Kylie Cantrall in The Descendants: The Rise of Red.
Disney+

Disney+‘s original lineup in July is all about The Descendants, so we hope you like that teen-friendly musical fantasy franchise… because there’s not a lot to get excited about beyond that. On July 12, the first three Descendants TV movies are getting new sing-along versions as they mark the debut of the latest film in the franchise.

The Descendants: The Rise of Red marks a new beginning for the series of television films as it shifts the focus to the daughter of the Queen of Hearts, Red (Kylie Cantrall), and her new friend, Chloe Charming (Malia Baker). Chloe is the daughter of Cinderella and King Charming, who in a nod to Disney history, are once again respectively portrayed by Brandy Norwood and Paolo Montalban.

Discovery Channel is the home of Shark Week at the end of July, but that didn’t stop Disney+ from lining up its own shark-related programing for the beginning of the month. For the very young children in your life, Bluey minisodes are coming on July 3, while older fans may enjoy the remaining episodes of The Acolyte that will be shown throughout the month. If this seems like a very tiny programing slate, that’s because it is. To cover up its shortcomings, Disney+ will continue to promote Hulu’s original shows as if they are its own, but you’ll have to pay for another subscription to get both.

Our roundup of everything new on Disney+ in July 2024 can be found below, with our favorites highlighted in bold.

What’s new on Hulu in July 2024 and what’s leaving soon
The main characters of Marvel's Hit-Monkey season 2.

After Hulu debuted Clipped and The Bear season 3 in June, that left a pretty tough act for the streamer to follow in July. Fortunately, Hulu has another season of the sci-fi animated comedy series Futurama premiering at the end of the month. Additionally, the adult animated comedy, Hit-Monkey is back for a second season as well. That show is the lone holdover from Marvel's original Hulu animated series lineup that was put together before Disney+ launched.

At the beginning of July, Hulu is getting a few of the Alien movies back, in addition to Alita: Battle Angel, Ford v Ferrari, Garden State, and more films. It's a very solid lineup, and Hulu also has an assortment of reality and scripted programing surrounding it throughout the rest of July.
